ETISALAT-TO-9MOBILE
Early December last year 2017, a list of the final 5 bidders for 9mobile was released, with the top bidder—who will take control and care of the  management of the telecom network—fixed to be announced in the same month. But the date was prolonged after 9mobile wrote to the Central Bank of Nigeria and NCC asking for an extension of the set aside date.

The NCC Executive Commissioner and stakeholder Management insisted that the transactions and handover of 9mobile to the new owner must be finalized on the 16th of January, 2018

"There would be no shifting of date, insisting that the sale must be concluded on January 16th this year, and 9mobile will be handed over to its new owner on that same date"

The bidding process was coordinated and evaluated by Barclays Africa and shortlisted the 5 bidding to acquire 9mobile.

Globacom, according to news updates is seriously looking for all means to knock-out MTN and become the largest operator in Nigeria.

Market Analysts believes that the battle for 9mobile rests between Globacom and Airtel because of their financial strengths and experiences in Nigerian Market.

According to some reports; Four (4) of the bidders have formed an alliance to reduce the chances of the remaining one which appears to have the financial strength to knock out the other bidders ahead of the deadline.

Etisalat (now 9mobile) once boasted of over 20 million active subscribers,  but when they defaulted on $12.2 billion loans from a consortium of banks and their parent company in Abu Dhabi Backed out, things went sore for the 4th largest telecom network operator in Nigeria.

Recall that Globalcom is the second biggest network in the subscription market after MTN, and controls 26.6 percent market share and 37 million customers, while Airtel is third with 35 million customers as at the end of October.

Embattled 9mobile has 17million customers, which is 12.2 percent of the market, MTN with 50.7 million customers, controls 36percent market share.

Industry Analyst believes that Globacom will be in a better position to acquire 9mobile if it truly desires to lead the Nigerian market. If Glo adds up it's 26.6% to 9mobile 12.6%, it will rise to 38.8% and tactically dethrone MTN which is currently 36%.

By next week Tuesday, January 16th, the Winner will be announced.

Who do you think is in the best position to  Acquire 9mobile??
